Company: Chemist Spirits, 2 Brook Street, Asheville, NC 28803
Job Type: Full-time, salaried. Five days per week, including evenings and weekends
About Us:
Chemist Spirits is a women-owned distillery in Asheville’s South Slope neighborhood, and the company behind Antidote Cocktail Lounge and Coffee Bar. As a locally operated hospitality business, we care about collaboration, quality craft, continual growth, and genuine hospitality toward our guests and our team.
Chemist of Biltmore Village is our second location. It brings three concepts under one roof: The Parlor, a coffee and cocktail bar; the Chemist Mercantile and Tasting Room; and Penny Black, the speakeasy and cocktail lounge.
The Role:
We’re looking for an Assistant General Manager to help open Chemist of Biltmore Village and lead the floor once we’re open.
You’ll be second in command to the General Manager. Before we open, you’ll help hire and train the team and assist in building the systems the location runs on. After we open, you’ll be the primary leader on the floor during service: running shifts across all three concepts, developing the team, and holding the standard for hospitality and quality.
This role suits someone who wants to help build a location and create something new!
What You’ll Do:
- Work with the GM to build and refine the SOPs the location runs on
- Help hire, onboard, and train the opening team
- Run pre-shift meetings, trainings, and ongoing education across cocktails, spirits, coffee, and food, with the primary focus being the evening cocktail program.
- Serve as Manager on Duty, and lead decision-making on the floor when the GM is off-site.
- Coach and develop team members, giving feedback while maintaining a healthy, positive, and supportive work environment.
- Oversee service flow, staffing coverage, cleanliness, and pace during your shifts
- Support inventory, ordering, and cost control across bar, coffee, retail, and kitchen
- Uphold health code, ServSafe, and NC ABC standards
- Host guests, handle feedback, and keep the hospitality experience consistent
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years in hospitality leadership, preferably in a cocktail bar or restaurant
- Working knowledge of cocktails, spirits, wine, beer, and coffee. We expect more depth in one and a willingness to learn the rest
- A coach. You develop people, and you’re patient with the ones still learning
- Someone who creates a healthy team environment. We value internal hospitality just as much as guest hospitality
- Proactive and independent; You see what needs doing and handle it, and you think creatively when the answer isn’t obvious
- Steady under pressure, and clear in how you communicate
- Strong organizational and administrative habits
- Availability across evenings and weekends
- Familiarity with POS systems (such as Toast) is helpful
- 21+ and eligible to serve alcohol in North Carolina (required by NC law)
Why Work With Us?
- A chance to help open a new location and shape how it runs
- Three concepts under one roof, so the work stays varied
- Joining a values-focused leadership team that values coaching and gives you room to lead
- As Chemist grows, there will be opportunities to grow with us!
Compensation & Benefits
- $55,000 to $58,000 per year, depending on experience
- 21 paid days off annually
- Health, Dental & Vision Insurance
