For our June general membership meeting, we’re focusing on workplace safety. We’ll have presentations from the Buncombe County Behavioral Health Justice Collaborative and its partners Vaya Health, RHA – Behavioral Health Urgent Care, Buncombe County Public Health Promotions Team and the APD Community Engagement Team.
The team will share:
- Overview and handout of services/phone numbers to call in various potential behavioral health-related situations
- What is Mental Health First Aid Training, how can businesses learn more
- How to administer Narcan and more info on upcoming trainings hosted by public health officials
- Overview of de-escalation skills with handout for quick access and reminders in the workplace
We’ll also have a presentation on first response for life-saving emergencies:
- Stop the Bleed 101: Motivated by the 2012 Sandy Hook School disaster, the American College of Surgeons, the Committee on Trauma and the Hartford Consensus convened to provide the Stop The Bleed program. Attendees will learn how to save a life by quickly stopping the bleeding. Civilians will receive training in three steps: identification of life threatening bleeding, immediate compression, and initiation of 911.
- BEFAST – Stroke Awareness: How to recognize and respond to acute stroke
- Buncombe County EMS Community Paramedics: Partners in community outreach and education, offering onsite training in CPR, blood-borne pathogens and more.
We’ll conclude with an update on the Downtown Safety Initiative from City staff.
