St.Rains is a low-dose craft cannabis beverage based here in Asheville. This article will share more about what makes us craft within the broader THC beverage space that’s popping up everywhere these days.

As a starting point, the cannabis plant is a plethora of functional chemistry, generally broken into two categories: cannabinoids (think THC, CBD) and terpenes (think limonene, myrcene, humulene, etc.)

As whole plant enthusiasts, coming from ten years in the industry, we work with a full spectrum of cannabinoids using whatever is naturally occurring in the hemp plant (including minor/rare cannabinoids) further distilled into a ratio conducive for more of a body high, along with a full spectrum of steam-distilled terpenes and essential oils all from the Cannabis plant.
The terpene aspect is the one we’ll take a deeper dive into for this article:

As nature’s aromatics, terpenes are produced by plants all over the world. When you walk into the woods, stroll through a garden, or take a whiff of your IPA, you’re taking in terpenes. Remarkably, the cannabis plant produces a vast array of nature’s terpenes. So what we do, and what the fun challenge has been over the last several years, is finding matching fruit pairings within this array of Cannabis terpenes. So far we’ve landed on ocimene-dominant terpene mixes with our newest OG Mango, and limonene/myrcene/caryophyllene pairings with our Pear Herer and Ojai Kush. And there’s much more in the works.

We feel like we’re at a frontier of both flavor and functionality. And there’s no better place to develop this concept than Asheville, as the craft beverage leader in the US in my opinion at least, especially as California and New York (where bigger trends generally start) have opted out of this emerging market, for now.
