What is your favorite part of being a restaurant owner in Asheville?

Asheville has such a wonderful network of Independent Restaurants that support and sustain each other in this wonderful, but sometimes difficult industry!  So that makes owning a restaurant in Asheville particularly rewarding.  So, too, do the note and photos that come from a guest who is wearing their Pack’s Tavern T-shirt in Chicago, letting us know that they ran into someone who says, “Pack’s Tavern in Asheville?  I LOVE that place!”

What is the background of your restaurant’s name?

We are fortunate to be located adjacent to the wonderful Park that was giving to the City/County by George Willis Pack. We decided to recognize his contribution to our city center in our name.

What ingredient could you not live without?

We are a tavern, so let’s say BEER!  Besides selling it in pints,  we incorporate beer into a number of our menu items.  But really, the most important ingredient is our amazing staff!

What is your favorite dish on your menu?

Because we have a large and varied menu, it’s hard to pick one dish.  I am crazy about the pizza cooked in our wood-fired oven.  I’m also a big fan of our burgers while the fish ‘n chips is our biggest seller.

What is your favorite dish from a fellow AIR restaurant’s menu?

I like to sit at the bar at Storm Rhum Bar and Bistro (of course) and order one of the wonderful appetizers and their generous burger!

Why did you choose Asheville to open your restaurant?

Pack’s Tavern is a family owned restaurant and we all were born and raised in Asheville.    It is a joy to have a business in a downtown historic building that represents Asheville to our friends, our local guests and the tourists who visit our beautiful city.

What is your favorite chef’s tool and why?

While I admire the creativity and breadth of knowledge of our great team of Chefs, I am not one.  So, stretching the definition of “tool”, I am thrilled with our wood-fired oven.  It not only allows for a wonderful variety of delicious menu items, but creates a warm, inviting atmosphere and radiates a wonderful tavern aroma.
