What is your favorite part of being a restaurant owner in Asheville?
I love to engage with the local residents and meeting visitors, as well. I have also met so many local business owners and I value the camaraderie that the community has.
What is the background of your restaurant’s name?
I wanted a name that sounded like “Asheville.” I love restaurant names that tell you what is inside. We bake pies, so Baked Pie Company was created.
What ingredient could you not live without?
CHOCOLATE!!! I was born with a sweet tooth and the tooth fairy will never get it!
What is your favorite dish on your menu?
My all-time favorite pie in the shop is also our #1 seller, Honey Pecan. We also have a chocolate version of this that is out of this world!
What is your favorite dish from a fellow AIR restaurant’s menu?
I would start with the Okra Fries from Chai Pani, the Margarita Caliente from Limones, the Spaghetti with Sunday Gravy from Vinnie’s and I would finish with a piece of Coconut Cake from The Black Bird.
Why did you choose Asheville to open your restaurant?
We moved our family to South Asheville from South Florida 22 years ago. We love it here and I wanted my shop to open in an area where I was living. I positioned our shops with the thought of having a place that locals would come to without the hassle of downtown parking, bad weather and a long drive.
What is your favorite chef’s tool?
A rolling pin, of course.
